When he is cute, he is CUTE. Same when he's rotten....he sure knows how to be a stubborn lil' thing.

He loves preschool and is always kind and friendly to the teachers and classmates. He loves to draw and write. He came home one day with this family picture. I just laugh everytime I see it. The lines are David's forehead are spot on!

He has really enjoyed riding his bike, which makes family walks much more enjoyable. Not that I didn't' love pushing the girls in the stroller with one hand, Grant dangling off the front, and me carrying his scooter in the other. Really, that was fun:) He is happiest when he's outside playing with friends and always says "hi" to people we pass by. He is a good example and reminder to me to be more friendly.

Currently he still loves trains, the wii, and learning about the human body. He likes to talk about bones and the heart the most. I love it.

He is a great big brother and warmly greets them every morning. He likes to play with them and teach them new things he has learned. I feel so blessed to have these three.

Some of my favorite things he has said the last few months.

"My brain keeps telling me to laugh at funny things."

"Mom, can I eat those things that look like band-aids?" (fritos)

This will only make sense to Mormons, "first you go in the bathroom, then the closet, and then the church swimming pool. That's where you get bathatized."

Lately he's been asking if he can join "hi-yate" (karate). I can see why he'd assume that's what it's called.

Anyway, I sure love this smart, caring big boy of mine.
Probably because I'm loving up on my babes all day. These girls (and sometimes Grant) are the sweetest things and I truly thank Heavenly Father every day for them. What sweet little blessings they are to our family.

They turned one on Feb 15 and we were lucky enough to have my parents in town to help celebrate. We went out to In-n-Out that night and then had a little neighborhood party the following afternoon. It just so happened to be an all boy party....let's hope that trend doesn't continue:)

Tatum has about 7 teeth and Kate has about 9. It's hard to really tell since they both like to bite anytime you get close.

It's funny to me how these girls go in phases, one week Tatum will be clingy or hungry or grumpy, then the next it will be Kate. I'm just glad they don't act naughty at the same time. We can't really claim one as "active" or "smart" or anything, because they both kind of take turns.

Kate and the pinata....I guess she wanted to bust it open? Btw, having a birthday the day after v-day is brilliant, all that discounted pink and red candy!
Currently, Tatum loves to play with phones. It's as if she can smell one a mile away. She also likes to dance and listen to music. Oh and she loves to chew on paper and cardboard. She weighs 18.1 lbs and is 28 1/4 inches tall.
Kate likes to carry things around in her mouth, smile all the time, and cruise along furniture. There is a cabinet in the office area that she likes to go hide and play in. She weighs 18.1.5 lbs and is 27 3/4 inches tall. So, pretty identical to me;)

Is it possible that life goes on even if you don't blog about it? Well it does. We had a great holiday and so far 2014 has been just as great.

Last year Grant was obsessed with Charlie Brown and we were hoping this year would be the same. Instead he was crazy about The Polar "Expressk". There were a few mornings I'd come in and find the kids all lined up in a train waiting for breakfast. He loves bossing his sisters around and nominating who gets to be the conductor or the caboose.

We decided to drive home this year. We don't really live near an airport so driving is easier....or is it? The way there we may or may not have said the following statements "we're never driving home again.", "we're done having kids." Honestly the kids weren't that bad it's just a long drive and even longer when we have to trade off watching kids in the car while the other one runs in the gas station or whatever. We're totally outnumbered and sometimes that's tricky. Once we were in Craig it was great though. It's fun spending time with family and so convenient to visit both sides of our families.

Isn't Kate the cutest trying to be a big girl?

Who needs toys when you can just crawl and hide under the piano?

The girls (especially Tatum) have some crazy long hairs, so we took advantage of that:)

We ended up staying a few days longer than our siblings and it was perfect for us to spend extra time with just our parents. We also decided to drive through St. George and stay with my brother's family on the way there and back. SO much easier than trying to stay at a hotel. We had a fun time with them. Someday we'll live close by family right???David and Jodeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09121740871842167321noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6177210758924032947.post-2417177081414286952013-11-20T17:56:00.001-06:002013-11-20T17:56:41.358-06:00life with twinsI think every mother of little ones can agree that the phrase "you've got your hands full." has got to be the most annoying sentence ever. Yes, I do but it's not like I have that many kids. Living in California is quite amusing too. Most people have a nanny, yes a nanny, for two children. They can't grasp the idea that I stay home with ALL my children. I do enjoy it though. Tatum and Kate have proved to be the happiest babies around. We are truly blessed to have such "easy" girls. I know it won't always be that way but these last 9 months (are they really that old?) have been such a wonderful, and fun experience.
There are so many worries with raising daughters, especially when they might compete with each other. I just hope they can love each other and always be close friends. I worried that one would be a little more advanced, and I'm sure it might come to that someday, but for now they each have their strengths. Tatum learned to roll, smile, and clap first. Kate has learned to scoot, babble and sprout teeth first. They each have their "fussy" periods and thankfully they really aren't at the same time. I'm glad that they each go through "happy/sad" times and that it isn't just one girl that is constantly needing my attention.

To be completely honest the hardest part is just taking extra steps everywhere. Pick one up from the crib, put her in the playroom, get the other one out of the crib, put her in the playroom. Put her in the highchair, put her in the highchair. Buckle in carseat, take out to the car, buckle in carseat, take out to car. I tell David that I am literally just taking care of kids all day....the basic feeding, changing, bathing takes a long time. Grant tries to help where he can and I really appreciate it. These kids adore each other. I love it, I sometimes feel like my heart is going to just burst right open when I watch them interact.
Gotta make sure every square inch of the world has access to my pictures right?
Grant did a round of swimming lessons this summer. He really enjoyed it and is excited to start up again in a few weeks.
I probably should be cleaning or getting dinner ready....I know that David loves it when he gets home from work and then he starts cooking dinner. I'm sure that's his favorite. This blog has been pushed aside for way too long though.

The end of June I celebrated my birthday. It was fun but just reminded me that I am an adult now and I had those typical questions about what I have/have not done in my life. I feel really happy and grateful for my life and family but there is always room for improvement. I want to really enjoy my life and not just go through the motions of motherhood and being a wife. This is silly but I decided to make a bucket list if you will. I turn 30 next year and I've heard of "30 things before 30" but that seemed too easy, 100 didn't seem to flow soooo next up "300 things before 30". Well, that is proving to be quite a stretch. I'm still finishing up writing the list but it ranges from small things (cut me some slack 300 is a big number) such as "have __________ family over for dinner" or "bake a cheesecake for David" to "visit ____ museums in San Fran." I'm excited. I think it will help me push myself to try new things and also just enjoy the simple pleasures of my little family and our situation.

We were able to spend my birthday with BYU friends. Grant willingly picked out my cake and pinata. How generous of him.
I can't handle it. They are in a fun and easy stage and I just want them to stay small and sweet forever....they are absolute gems.
This last month they've both really grown. They are rolling, not a ton but they still do it every now and then. They are super smiley and are laughing. I think every mother can agree that that is the best sound in the world. They are quick to smile but they tire easily of the same "blowing bubbles" or silly noises we make to try to get a laugh. Grant had certain toys or tickles that always guaranteed a laugh but they are a little harder to please.
Tatum likes to suck her thumb and Kate prefers her pacifier. I have them in the same crib but I'm wondering if I should split them up now that they are rolling. It's cute to see them sleeping together but there have been cases where they kick each other or one hogs the crib and the other is curled in the corner. The things you never worry about with just one baby right?

Sooo California....it's pretty much as amazing as you would think. I love that we live in a smaller town that has a farm-like feel to it. There's something so refreshing to live in a place that isn't too big or crowded with strangers and crime. We really enjoy our neighborhood and ward. We quickly found out last summer during our internship in AZ that we are NOT hot weather people. Especially in the summer when kids are home all day. Living in the bay area is perfect for us since it does get chilly. I guess we are true Coloradans in that way.

We're a little over an hour from San Fran and 45 mins from Monterey/Carmel. We were able to visit Monterey/Carmel last weekend and I'm already excited to go back....preferably not on a Saturday! The sand was so soft and the water was gorgeous. Grant has turned in to a little beach bum and constantly asks to go. It's tricky to take 3 kids to the beach by myself. The girls are easy but I just don't have enough hands to carry all our gear. Oh well, we try to make it there as much as we can though.
These girls sure do love him. He can make them smile and laugh almost instantly, which is great but then he manages to take it about 100 steps too far and drive me bonkers! I know he just wants to help, but lifting the babies off the floor or "helping" them roll over isn't quite as helpful as he thinks.
This kid LOVES numbers, LOOOVES them. We can't even leave the driveway without him pointing out all the numbers on the houses or cars. Anytime he gets the mail or looks through papers he points out all the numbers. He memorizes birthdays or addresses and other random number facts. Cracks me up.
While on our walk one day got off his bike and went over to pick me a flower because "girls like pink, and this flower is pink."

He has a great imagination and humorous personality. I never know who he is going to be, often he is Charlie Bucket (Willy Wonka), other days he is Charlie Brown or Thomas the train. In order to get his attention I have to call him by the new name. He is extremely observant and detail oriented. He has an amazing memory that often gets David and I in trouble..."but you said we could buy this when dad got paid." or my new favorite is that he likes to tell everyone about us/ our conversations "my mom's belly button...." I'm excited for him to start preschool in the fall. Since moving here he's been the most social little boy in the neighborhood. He's always eager to meet new friends and say "hi" to strangers on our walks/bike rides.
She is pretty mellow and likes to study everything. People say she looks more like a Luke and Kate looks more like an Ence. I just think they're both equally cute and fun! Tatum has wild hairs in the back that remind me of Jack Nicholson or something. I love it! These girls are getting harder to tell apart. A little while back we noticed that Kate has little dimples on her right ear, it's a perfect spot to have a difference.
She's a spitfire and sweetheart all in one. She likes to be held and definitely takes the "baby in the family" role pretty serious. She has such a strong neck and reminds me of Grant in the way her little body moves around to see what's going on and in how alert she is.

I feel like everyone is on facebook or instagram and blogs are now taking the backseat. I hate it. I don't want to fall in that trap...or keep staying in that trap I should say.

We're moving on THURSDAY...Thursday people! I should be packing but with each box I'm reminded that change is coming. I'm excited about this new experience but I will miss our friends and neighbors dearly. I will miss watching Grant play with his cute little buddies and to be honest we've become so comfortable here and I hate to go and change a good thing. With that being said I DO think Cali will be a thrill and I'm very grateful that we have this opportunity.

Soooo....these little girls are growing up WAY TOO FAST. I hate it. HATE it! For most of my pregnancy I was so worried about them and how they would interact with each other growing up and how I would handle everything. I felt very overwhelmed by the thought of having twins but I can honestly say that I LOVE it. They are the sweetest little girls and I could just cuddle them all day...good thing I like it because that's what I usually do! Packing up a house with two newborns has proven to be tricky but we're managing. They are just too cute to get mad at:)

We blessed them on Mother's Day, very appropriate. David did a wonderful job and it was so nice to be surrounded by loved ones. My mother in-law made the dresses and they were gorgeous. My mom and dad were so helpful cleaning the house and running errands to make sure everyone had a great weekend. What a lucky family we are.

Stop it, stop it right now! They have been so much fun, and I feel so blessed and relieved to have them here.

How is life with three? It's been a adjustment for sure, but things are going really well. At any given moment someone is poopy, or lost a binky or wants to be held. I feel like I never get a breather. I do have the girls eat at the same time so that cuts down on time which is nice. Thankfully the weather has been beautiful and I can kick Grant out the door to play with friends. Entertaining him has been my hardest challenge so this helps a LOT. He, like most older siblings, LOVES to love his sisters. Of course it's cute and sweet but man alive it gets old saying "don't poke her eye. wait don't poke HER eye." We've started a "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes." method of touching and it seems to help...for about 5 mins.

(this was taken a few weeks ago)
How do we tell them apart? The main differences are, Kate is a little pinker and Tatum has more hair. Other than that they are starting to look more similar each day.

Do they have different personalities? Well, they ARE two separate people and although they haven't told me what they do/don't like we can already tell Kate is more of a spitfire and Tatum is a little more easy going. Like every other kid, they have their moments, so I hate to classify and compare them right now. I have noticed that they'll often start to squirm at the same time and then go back to sleep, start to squirm again, sleep again, it's pretty cute. Oh and they also love to eat each other, fingers, noses, heads whatever is close by. It's so funny to watch them get frustrated at each other and the fact they can't get any food.

How do they sleep? Hum...they are still in the newborn sleepy/frequent eating stage so we get 3-4 hour stretches at night. Sometimes they sleep in the bassinet together or one will be in the swing and the other in the boppy. We're still trying to figure out the best way for us all to get a little beauty rest.

Anyway we sure do love these little girls....a bunch:) oh and their brother too!
Grant has had a fun few days hunting for eggs and spending time with friends. Last night I started panicking that the Easter Bunny didn't bring very exciting things. Don't get me wrong most 4 year olds would love a pair of socks and old Halloween candy right? I was stressing out about it during one of the girls mid-night feedings. Anyway lucky for me Grant is sweet as candy and LOVED his simple basket. "A book!", "Look, socks just like dad!" A true Easter miracle:)
The NP decided to schedule me for a c-sec on Feb 25. I left that appt very discouraged. I was told I would deliver no later than 38 weeks which would be Feb 21. The thought of recovering from a c-sec with two newborns and a preschooler didn't exactly excite me either. The next week I met with the OB and we decided to move the induction/c-sec to the 21st. I was glad about that but still not totally sold on the c-sec, of course I wanted healthy babies so I would do what needed to be done. Each OB had different opinions on the method of delivery and I just wanted to feel secure in our decision and that the doctor would do what was best.

On Feb 12 I met with my high risk doc and we reviewed my previous ultrasounds and non-stress tests. He asked if I would be ok with an earlier induction. Seriously? What pregnant lady would want to be pregnant a moment longer? Of course I'd be ok with it! He then asked if my husband would be ok with it. Does his opinion really matter? I didn't skip a beat and just told him he would love for me to be done with this pregnancy. Since the girls were sharing a placenta and I was almost 37 weeks he thought it would be a safer and healthier option than waiting until 38 weeks. Music to my ears! The OB set the induction for the 14th. Silly, but I didn't want them to be born on v-day. I mean they are sharing everything else, can't they just have a nice birthday dinner without everyone else eating out too? We moved the date to Fri the 15th. Wednesday night I started having contractions and couldn't sleep at all. I woke up and decided that maybe the 14th would be a cute day to deliver my little sweethearts. Plus my favorite doc was on-call that night and that eased my labor and delivery fears. The girls weren't moving very much and my contractions had stopped so we decided to head to the doc. I met with Dr. Broberg who thought I should just be induced right then rather than come back in the morning. We discussed all the risks involved with a breech delivery but decided that it would be worth a shot.

Around 8:30pm they started the pitocin, 11:00 epidural/water broke and at 2:10 they wheeled me down to the OR, I had to deliver there just in case. Everything up to this point had been great, I wasn't in pain or scared. I was able to rest and had really great nurses. Once we reached the OR I started getting nervous. How long would this take? What if I delivered one and then a c-sec for the other? How long will they spend in the NICU? How will I take care of TWO newborns? I remember looking over at David in his scrubs and telling him how nervous I was. Dr. Broberg and all the nurses were great at reassuring me things would be fine and that I could do it. 2:20 am I started pushing, 2:22 Tatum arrived bright red and crying, 2:26 Kate came feet first, blue and lifeless. I remember being worried but not terrified. I had had so many blessings and prayers that I knew she'd be fine. They quickly sent her off to get oxygen for about a 1 min. and then both girls were able to be with me.

I can't begin to describe the emotions with their birth. The word that sums it up is RELIEF. Relief that they were both here, and healthy and strong. Relief that the labor and delivery was amazingly smooth. Relief at how perfect they were. I loved being able to hold my girls and examine everything about them. Instant love and thankfulness for them.
These little girls are such a blessing. I never imagined having twins but this has been the best surprise. They can usually comfort each other in the crib and I love to watch them snuggle up together. I'm so grateful for their health and that I can be a mother to them and Grant.
I've been so nervous to bring two little girls in to the world. Maybe I'm wrong in my assumptions but I feel that they will, at some point, be compared not only to each other but other girls and I want them to always be kind to themselves and never feel insecure about who they are. I feel like I need to be a better example of that if I hope to instill in them a since of pride and self-esteem.

One of my favorite things is to read about how the girls are growing and what milestones they are reaching each week. I'm quite fascinated with the human body and how it works. The last few years I've been known to just "go off" on how amazing and forgiving our bodies are. It's mind boggling that our bodies just know how to operate and what it does/doesn't like that we do to it.

This pregnancy has been quite a miracle in my eyes. The fact that my 5'1" frame is carrying around TWO babies is just crazy. The toll my body has taken has been hard but at the same time I'm amazed that I can walk around and bend and reach (ok maybe not so much these past few weeks) and that my feet/back/ankles can support myself and two other people. Sure most days aren't so pretty and I get frustrated that I can't just go for a run or tie my shoes or carry the laundry upstairs....wait....scratch that. I know that it's worth it, and I'll be able to feel "normal" one of these days right? Right??? I do love that I'm able to be pregnant and that they are active and growing. 10 more days! I sure can't wait to meet these little babes!

He was absolutely in love with Christmas this year. He'd talk about Santa and flying Reindeer, he'd comment how certain Santa's weren't real since they didn't have a "ball" on their hats etc. His favorite thing this Christmas season? Charlie Brown. He read and read and memorized every Charlie Brown Christmas book and movie he could snag. It was quite humorous and incredibly sweet. Here's a little peek at his obsession. BTW David and I had no part of this, totally learned it on his own.
I probably was a little more on the Scrooge side this year and didn't always feel up to sliding around on the ice and freezing my tushy off. We still managed to do some fun things inside our nice crowd-free, warm home.

All Grant asked for from Santa was a Dream Lite. Yes a Dream Lite. I'm just as confused as you are about how anyone could come up with this idea and charge too much for it and people actually buy it. Anyway he was over the moon about having it.

We also surprised him with this beauty. He absolutely loves it (who wouldn't? Didn't we all want a power wheels car at some point?!) and will put little treasures in it each day, go through the "drive thru" for his breakfast and lunch and make sure it's locked up and full of gas each night. I love watching him pretend and expand his imagination.
After graduation we are California bound and couldn't be more excited about that!!!! The whole month of November David flew around the country interviewing, he was in 5 states within 14 days. It was crazy, neither of us could ever remember where he was or where he was going. All his hard work and preparation paid off when Adobe called and offered him the position in San Jose. They do have an office here in Lehi but the corporate office is located in CA and we feel that will be a great starting point for us. I'm so proud of David!

We were debating between Mars (candy) in New Jersey and Adobe, we both feel really good about our decision. I am excited for visitors...hint hint. Sure it may be cramped in our teeny tiny cardboard box but we'll gladly welcome guests! This is going to be a very busy spring in the Luke house! Poor little Grant won't know what hit him.....new babies, packing up toys, leaving friends. Ugh. I suppose he should be used to this considering he's lived in 5 states in 4 years! Sheesh! Wish us luck!

Well friends, the wait is over. This was probably my favorite Halloween with Grant. He is old enough to enjoy crafts and loved wearing his costume to multiple parties. Last year we debated between Alvin and Nacho. We decided on Alvin and lucky for us my nephew was Nacho, which meant we could easily borrow the outfit this year. Grant was in heaven! He'd go around quoting the movie and would give us an "anaconda squeeze" before bed. I can't get enough of this costume. I think it's hilarious!

All three (or five) of us were a hit at the MBA and ward parties. David was an inflatable ostrich....random and funny. I went as a double stuff Oreo. I have a thing for Oreos and this was a great opportunity to dress up with the twins. My dad worked hard making my costume, it turned out great.

In typical Jodee mode, I was more worried about being reported than I was about his well being. He was slow as molasses as we wondered from house to house. His OCD was in full force that night. He MADE sure he said "trick-or-treat" and "thank you" AND " happy Halloween" to each and every neighbor. If he forgot anything we'd have to go back and say it. He didn't dare say it from the street or even set foot on the grass to quickly run up to the door. Sweet? Absolutely! Annoyingly long night? Most definitely!

He still talks about Halloween and loves to turn all the lights off and declare that it is in fact Halloween. I hate it. I really do. I'll be in the middle of doing dishes or reading when all of the sudden it's pitch black. I hope this goth phase ends soon.

My neighbor and I started planning for a "gender reveal" party for the neighborhood. I'm so glad we did one, and even more glad that my mom and sil were able to be in town for it too!

That afternoon David, Grant and I went to the appt and I quickly told the tech that we didn't want to know gender there but to put the results in an envelope. She did a very thorough ultrasound and we were obviously relieved to just have two healthy babies and to see them kicking around and their little heartbeats rapidly moving. I love seeing these little babies and what an amazing miracle life is. It's always crazy to me how quickly they develop and what they are growing/doing each week. One of the babies kept sucking it's hand and opening and closing it's palm. 17 weeks! What a fun thing to watch!

David and I watched as she labeled each part of their bodies. She then told us she was going to reveal the gender, we watched up until she actually wrote on the screen what they were. When we got out to the car we discussed what we both thought they were. Knowing that they're identical made it a little easier to guess.

As soon as we came home we handed the envelope to my neighbor and she headed off to fill a box with either pink or blue balloons. That evening we had everyone take a either a blue or pink cupcake and we opened the box to find......

When plans change I'm either 1.) frustrated or 2.) grateful. Last year was filled with heartache as we experienced two miscarriages. Three total miscarriages and only one baby? I felt like I was against all the odds. I feel silly to even complain, I know people go through hard things each and every day. I know my situation is no harder/easier than others. I spent many days and nights on my knees praying to Heavenly Father for answers and comfort only to feel like my requests were bouncing off the ceiling and landing back on the floor. David and I tried to just focus on other things than the thought of having more kids, closing that gap between Grant and the next, explaining why we'd been married "so long" with "only one child".

We moved down to Phoenix for the summer and a few weeks later found out we were expecting! I quickly made an appt with a random OB down there. She was as sweet as could be and in my mind a true godsend. She put me on all sorts of meds/vitamins and wanted me to come in for an ultrasound the next week. As I sat there the ultrasound tech informed me that "sorry, you're not 8 weeks like you thought, you are only 6." Isn't that the worst news to hear at those appts? She then looked over at the NP and said "Do you see this?!" I immediately started to worry. No heartbeat? Abnormal growth? She kindly looked at me and said "There are TWO heartbeats there!" WHAT???? I rested my head on the pillow and tried to soak in what I had just heard. Both the tech and nurse said "You must be making up for lost time." We're poor college students so I guess my BOGO coupon works for babies too:)

I started feeling guilty about not trusting Heavenly Father, about not having faith in his timing. I'm so grateful for the blessings these little babies have already brought in to my life. Obviously I'm going to be worried and concerned for them but I already feel so much comfort from friends, family, strangers. It's been a pretty overwhelming experience that I can't even explain.

I'll answer the basic questions I get asked about a million times a day:)

-no, I was not on any fertility treatments
-no, twins don't really run in the family. David has a couple twin cousins but twins usually need to run on the mother's side and identical twins (which they think our's are) are completely random
-no, I am not running
-no, I am not working
-yes, we will find out the genders
-no, I don't think they are a boy and girl, especially if they are identical.....
-yes, I am a afraid of my body just splitting in half and the babies falling right out....thanks for asking
-no, I wasn't "twice as sick". I was sick for a little while at the beginning but still not too bad compared to most women. I was on progesterone for 12 weeks and that made me throw up every other day or so.
-yes, I'm seeing an OB AND a high risk doctor
-i don't know, if we will get a minivan right away:)
-yes, being pregnant with twins is completely different than singletons (not to say it's harder, just different.)
-no, we will not do rhyming names
-yes, if they are girls we will most likely have a tv show like Tia and Tamera or the Olsen twins

So, there ya have it! Stay tuned, about 8 more days and we should know the gender! Woohoo!David and Jodeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09121740871842167321noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6177210758924032947.post-2086962340704904162012-07-20T18:48:00.000-05:002012-07-20T18:48:05.197-05:00vacation from our vacationWarning: lots of pics, and yes some are blurry since they are taken with my phone.

It's been really hard to just sit around and have people cook and clean for us while we relax by the pool. It's just too stressful, Grant and I needed a vacation from it. We packed in the car with my sister and her four kids and headed back to Utah. My parents and brother's family met us there too. It was SO nice for Grant and I to be back in our house at Provo. We were able to visit neighbors, eat at the Provo bakery and Grant enjoyed playing with his friends which was fun for me to watch. The first day there we toured Temple Square. If there was ever a time that I wanted pack up my family and move to Salt Lake it was that day. It was so lush and green compared to the desert and I just loved looking at the beautiful mountains.

The next day we went to Lagoon. I wasn't sure how Grant would do but he really enjoyed all the rides. He didn't quite master the bumper cars, unless you consider spinning around in circles and occasionally getting smashed into, mastering the cars. It was fun having all the cousins (besides Jordan) there with us.

The next day my parents took the older grandkids to Mount Rushmore and the rest of us headed to Colorado. We stayed a day or two there just hanging out at Grandma's and enjoying the cool weather. Just your normal 'wearing wigs and not pants' kind of day.

Then we drove down to southern Colorado to see my extended family and meet back up with my parents/kids. I hadn't been there since 2007 so it was wonderful to be back in the valley. This was probably the highlight of Grant's trip, this kid was in heaven. My family is all potato farmers and live right by each other so we'd just swim at one house and go ride tractors at another etc.

After that my sister and I drove Heber AZ to spend the 4th with her family. David and my brother in-law drove up and met us. We were tired from traveling and just wanted our own beds but it was fun to spend the 4th in a new area and watch an amazing firework show.

Now we're back and trying to take advantage of what little time we have left here. This summer has flown by as usual.David and Jodeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09121740871842167321noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6177210758924032947.post-69798038457551679342012-07-13T00:28:00.000-05:002012-07-13T00:28:10.340-05:00long overdoYou know those blog posts that you just dread writing? The update on a new baby that is now 3? Christmas...which was 8 months ago? You just feel too overwhelmed to even begin. That's how this has been. Heaven knows I have the time to blog these days but I've just been too lazy I suppose.....

So we moved to Phoenix the beginning of June. Perfect timing right?!?! We're just here until the beginning of August, David is doing an internship at PetSmart's corporate office. He is really enjoying the experience and it's nice to not have him worry about studying.

What do Grant and I think of it? I'm not going to lie, it's a little slice of heaven most days. Unless it's super crazy hot than it's basically the opposite of heaven! Honestly though, PetSmart hooked us up in a Hilton Homewood Suite. Sounds kind of miserable at first but when you really think about it it's pretty awesome. The most cleaning I do everyday is put my dirty towel on the floor! Done. I don't have to worry about utilities and can crank that ac way up. They make dinner for us Mon-Thurs, sure it's your typical large group Costco type food but hey it's free, and they have a decent breakfast everyday too. Grant and I hangout at the hotel gym and swim almost everyday. We've made friends with the staff and also another intern wife and child. How many opportunities do mothers have to just spend 100% of their day with their children? No cooking, no cleaning, no job. I'll admit some days we get bored and wish it wasn't so hot out but I'm trying to just take advantage of this time with Grant.

My sister lives on the other side of the valley but I've probably visited her more times in one week that in a whole year! I love having little cousins around for Grant. One of my best friends from high school lives here too so I've been able to spend time with her as well as friends from WI.

This is how we spend most of our days. He's turned in to quite the little fish and has a pretty sweet tan line. It's been a fun summer.

He wakes up, changes into Thomas underwear, asks to watch Thomas and then asks to build a train track for Thomas and his friends. Repeat, repeat, repeat....
Last year we had decided that we were going to take Grant to the 'Day out with Thomas' in Heber, UT when it came. We quickly bought our tickets and tried to explain to Grant that he was actually going to see AND RIDE Thomas. He didn't quite understand because he "sees Thomas" almost everyday, he likes to tell little fibs that Thomas (and Santa, or a monster) are outside or flying in the sky or whatever. Once we actually pulled up to the train station and he could see the real Thomas there, oh man he was excited. You know he loves something when he just stares in awe. He was speechless, just a huge surprised smile on his face.

We were one of the first ones there, thank goodness! No lines! They had different booths to play at and he even met and shook hands with Sir Topham Hatt. His favorite part was of course the train ride, he listened to the conductor and loved waving at other passengers. Oh this little boy and his trains!
